Educational Session from Division J Governor TM Zilva Boaz

Greetings All!

1

We are¬†approaching end of¬†April 2015 and are very happy to¬†have held¬†a truly meaningful meeting of our beloved JLTC at Suan Thai. What makes it different is because this time meeting¬†we received¬†an inspiring and meaningful education session from Division Governor-J, TM Zilva Boaz, with the title of ¬†“How To Do A Simple and Effective Evaluation”.

20150423_192652

We got useful tips, formulated as “RAP” (Result, Audience, and¬†Preparation). In conclusion, we should focus on:

  1. Result: the speech to be prepared, rehearsed and presented by the speaker to meet with the speech objectives.
  2. Audience: the speech should  inspire, influence and involve the audiences as per the speech purpose.
  3. Preparation : point out the good things you like being an evaluator, reemphasize the positive point and also the closing as well as the conclusion.

Though the formula looks to be simple, I believe to be an excellent evaluator, one requires continuous practice and experience. Thus, the training inspires me also to try to do better evaluation in the future meetings.

In the meeting, we have¬†four amazing prepared speakers : (1) TM Rika with her 3rd project; (2) TM Awie with his 4th project (3) TM Adi Kurniawan with his 6th project; and (4) the newly joint member, ¬†TM Dewi Astuti with her 1st Icebreaker Speech. The old-time members have improved a lot since their first time¬†joining¬†JLTC and I trust it was thanks to their hard work, evaluation inputs, and last but not least was¬†the great support of all members in JLTC ! This excitement makes me can’t wait to deliver my next speech project immediately in the next meeting ūüôā

Other good news are, we¬†were very delighted to have again the visit of our last meeting distinguished guests, fellow Darwin Lesmana in addition to TM Dewi Astuti who had instantly joint our membership last weekend. ¬†Welcome TM Darwin! ¬†And we all¬†hope you will also soon follow TM Dewi Astuti’s step by joining our ¬†JLTC membership.

Let’s strive to continously shaping up ourselves and shining altogether ūüôā

2

Woow, TM Dewi Astuti, the newly joint members turned out to be the Best Prepared Speaker and fellow Darwin Lesmana, as Best Table Topic Speaker. Congratulations to both of you! We shall look forward to your next awesome speeches.

The next meeting shall be on¬†7th May 2015. Anyone gets interested, please give us a call and welcome joining our meeting. See you then, cheers ūüôā

JLTC 14th August Meeting Commemorating Independence Day

In commemorating the upcoming Indonesian Independence Day on 17th August 2014, some of  our JLTC excos and distinguished guests were wearing red-white shirts to welcome the day whilst attending JLTC meeting on Thursday, 14th August 2014.

See how happy we all during the meeting and let’s have a look what the meeting was about :

JLTC-Meeting

JLTC Meeting, Thursday evening,  14th August 2014

VPPR Adi delivered his 1st project speech on Icebreaking with title of ¬†“My Life, My Choice”. ¬†He told us a very interesting story about his college life, which once he ¬†thought¬†as one of his ‘wrong’ choice yet it turned out to be his biggest turning point in the life”.

TM-Adi

TM Adi delivered his 1st  project speech

He told us that the Informatics Engineering he majored into has somehow given him many new perspectives in his life, opened up his interest¬†in the Website Development and Business. He also met ¬†with TM Yendy as his Mandarin teacher, who eventually brought ¬†him to join Jakarta Lions Toastmaster Club¬†¬†to improve his speaking and leadership skills. He shared an inspiring quote with all of us that “Life is full of choices. Whatever your choice might be, just keep trying, going, and believing”. ¬†¬†For sample of icebreaker speech, you may read further TM Adi Halim’s uploaded article by clicking this link “My Life, My Choice”.¬†

Well done, TM Adi! We are sure that your choice by joining Toastmasters is absolutely your “Best Choice”, as every Exco and members at JLTC are always willing ¬†to help you become a better communicator and leader in the future! ūüôā

The second prepared speaker was TM Yendy. She delivered¬†her project no.4 ¬†outstanding speech about “Promoting ¬†TOCFL” from Advance Manual on Speech of Management. ¬†She introduced all audiences taking as her teaching staff about two types of international Mandarin proficiency test and certifications for non-Chinese learners : (1) HSK (simplified Mandarin) ¬†from China and (2) TOCFL (Traditional Mandarin) ¬†from Taiwan. ¬†As people worldwide including Indonesia is learning simplified Mandarin, Yendy told us the situational problem regarding the limited learners and test takers of traditional Mandarin, especially in Jakarta. ¬† Despite current circumstances, ¬†she ¬†shared us the difference and advantage of TOCFL; and also ¬†her strategies and tips ¬†for her teaching team to continously promoting TOCFL. ¬† Through her course at Bahasa Mandarin Center, you will get many benefits and able to learn Chinese Language in fun, professional, and effective ways.

We all, including myself, of BMC students are happy to have known and joint JLTC thanks to TM Yendy’s frequent sharings of toastmaster benefits towards our personal development, career and life. Toastmaster is simply amazing ūüôā

After prepared speeches, then came¬†Table Topic Session, led by TM Yendy, encouraging all audiences ¬†deliver impromptu /unprepared speech using the¬†¬†WOD about INDEPENDENCE.¬†We¬†were really excited to see all participants, including our distinguished guests sharing their thoughts and perspectives about being ‘INDEPENDENT‘ in their respective economy, job, and education.

For ¬†Hall of Fame, TM Dewi was chosen as the best Table Topic Speaker. Congrats TM Dewi! ūüôā

This time meeting, we were very joyful ¬†to have 5 distinguished guests : Ms. Charista, Ms. LiYa, Mr. Rudy, Mr. Henry, and Mr. Wira. We were proud to hear¬†many¬†positive and constructive feedback from all the guests. Not only they were¬†happy learning some things, enjoying the yummy dinner but also having fun with the meeting, some of them have uttered their interest to join¬†¬†JLTC membership. WELCOME ūüôā

Last but not least, we all would like to say MERDEKA! / GRATEFUL FOR BEING INDEPENDENT for the Indonesian’s independence day. As young generations, we shall try to do our best in our own field and way to be able to do some contributions towards our beloved Indonesia country. ¬† MERDEKA! *cheers*

Lippo Karawaci – JLTC Has Relaxful but Meaningful Meeting, 24th July 2014

Jakarta was getting loose with the traffic jam yesterday, Thursday, 24th July 2014, despite the holiday mood situation and only six attending audiences,   JLTC turned out to have had an enjoyable, full of laughters and meaningful meeting with the three visiting Lippo Karawaci Club fellow toastmasters

Not only that, the Area Governor for J-1, TM Aminah together with President Harry Sukamto and TM Piter from Lippo Karawaci Club were having some relaxful yet fruitful discussions with three of us from JLTC, such as, district-area-clubs speech contest commencement, preparation, participation, dcp progress, lebaran holiday outing, etc.

Although each of us were unavoidably wearing many hats performing some functions during the meeting, we were happy to learn from each other club’s habits and searching to follow the most proper toastmaster way. Seen here our meeting club activities :

SHARING SOME BEAUTIFUL QUOTES from TM Januar‘s speech : ¬†“Beauty might give you happiness, but happiness will surely give you beauty.” ¬†Other new terms are ” rabbit teeth, veneer teeth, ceramic teeth, bonding teeth”.

Whilst from TM Adi Kurniawan’s speech, we all learnt the statement to ponder about and might give us inspiration for future action “The only way for us to escape from energy dependant country is not to merely adopt a conventional fossil fuel, but to make a leap frog in creating a renewable energy”. ¬†Some terms to learn are “bio fuel, fossil fuel” ¬†And motivating statement such as ” I believe education can help transform some one to become a better person”.

What’s your comments, readers?

We both clubs do hope to have similar enjoyable “get-together meeting” again ¬†in the near future. For those who are interested, you are greatly welcome to join our next meeting to be held on Thursday, 14th August 2014.

Last but not least, on behalf of JLTC, we would like to extend our warmest greeting of ¬†MINAL AIZIN WALFAIZIN to those of you who are celebrating Idul Fitri and happy long holiday for all of us. Aloha, cheers ūüôā Treasurer JLTC , Yendy Widjaja, ACS-ALB

4 Excos JLTC Attended TLI on 19th July 2014 at Prasetya Mulya

Our new excos of JLTC for the new period have finally got their curiosity fulfilled by attending TLI (Training Leadership Institute) on 19th July 2014 at Prasetya Mulya University, South Jakarta.

Seen here in the photo showing how happy and excited we were four excos of JLTC posing together after the TLI session was over and all attendants were having dinner to break their fasting :

As old-time toastmaster (though have been as President for two consecutive years in 2009-2011; currently as Treasurer – Yendy Wijaya), I still learnt a lot from the TLI. Not only did I find that many old-time newcomers in the past 2-3 years have now become good communicators, but they were also capable to show up as good MC and made effective presentation. Simply amazing ! ¬†This has proven that toastmaster has indeed helped many people to become not only a better speaker and leader, but also become a better person ūüôā

Here are also some comments from our new ecxos. ¬†VPE Januar Wijaya said that the TLI has opened and broadened his mind to many new perspectives that toastmaster enhanced him to many new network, many new knowledge and information, and many opportunities to explore in the future. ¬†VPPR Adi Halim commented that the TLI was really exciting for him. He saw many new things beyond regular club meeting programs, learnt a lot of new things related to toastmaster education-programs-and events, and is also anxious to learn more about the District 87, Division I and J. ¬† I suppose VPPR Adi’s ¬†lattest statement has become good topic to be put into JLTC next meeting agendas when new AG Aminah is visiting Jakarta Lions Toastmaster club for installing new excos.

Overall, together with the new excos, I am very happy and proud that we all have made a good start in achieving half point for JLTC DCP and will continously work on our vision mission to achieve the President Distinguished Status by next year end term. Let’s do it fellow toastmasters. I believe we can achieve it through our solid TEAM (Together We Achieve More) ūüôā

Welcome JLTC New Excos 2014-2015

JLTC meeting on Thursday, 3rd July 2014 was indeed a very special moment, as it was the first day of new Excos’ term for July 2014 – June 2015 and that TM Yendy together with TM Dewi and DTM Maria Megawati, old-time excos had made a great welcome and declaration to all the newcomers as followings : President Naryaton Lie (Awie), VPE Januar Wijaya, Secretary Dewi Oni, VPM Adi Kurniawan, VPR Adi Halim and Treasurer Yendy Wijaya. ¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬†¬† TM Yendy delivered two advanced¬† speeches from “Speeches by Management” manual which served as educational session and was evaluated by DTM Maria Megawati. ¬† Her first speech was regarding “Excos’ Roles and Responsibilities” succeeded by second speech “DCP /Distinguished Club Point”.

TM Yendy

TM Yendy as she delivered her speech

In her respective speech, TM Yendy didn’t merely convey information, but also elaborated very compact on the issue and¬† shared her experiences how to achieve club¬† “President Distinguished” blue ribbon.¬† After the speech, she made additional session of “Q & A” facilitating all excos for clear understanding,¬† discussing action plans for revitalizing JLTC and sharing tips how to strive to achieve again the most honorable DCP status next year!

Though it’s still a long way to go, but all new members feel excited to start the journey soon !

As a result, President Awie proposed the vision of JLTC to be as a recognized club¬† and some rebranding plans for the mission.¬† Bravo! Let’s hand-in-hand working on the goals then ūüôā

For the second speaker, we had¬† new VPM Adi Kurniawan, who made his first speech with title of¬† “Dream About Me”. He told us that he once knew his¬† home environment as a country called “Jelambar” (in West Jakarta) and how he felt very comfortable with his life till he dreamt to open a shop when he grew up.

TM Adi Kurniawan

TM Adi Kurniawan

Yet his perspective has changed until he had won his struggle to go to Bandung famous state university, learnt from the new environment and found that¬† his youth’s dream was too small.¬† And now he has found bigger dream of setting up a factory in the future.¬† He concluded his speech with a very inspiring quote, which says “The best way to fulfill your dream is to wake up“.

I was personally stunned by his quote. It means that we can dream about all we want, but eventually we have to wake up, get back to our reality and work hard as well as smart in order to achieve our own dream.

Woow, TM Kurniawan didn’t seem to deliver icebreaker speech.¬†TM Dewi¬†said it was supposed to be project 9, an inspiring speech.

Thanks for your inspiration, TM Adi Kurniawan and we can’t wait to hear further your second project speech ūüôā

The JLTC WOD was “COMMUNICATIVE” and as usual, all of participants, including some distinguished guests were engaged¬† in the Table Topic Session, led by TM Yendy. It was a very pleasant and exciting night, because all of the audiences could speak up so well.

As Hall of Fame, DTM Maria was chosen as the best Table Topic speaker and also as the best Evaluator (that’s awesome!).

DTM Maria Best Speaker JLTC 3rd July 2014

DTM Maria as Best Table Topic Speaker and also Best Evaluator

We are happy to have two distinguished guests. They were Ms. Charista, University student pursuing double degree major and Mr. Agung, a corporate communication manager and media writer at a famous magazine. They both commented to have enjoyed the meeting and found that they could benefit from toastmaster programs. That’s great ! Welcome for joining JLTC and becoming part of our dynamic team soon, buddies ūüôā

Charista & Agung

Charista & Agung

As usual, the meeting ended at 21:00 p.m. and that next meeting was scheduled to be 17th July 2014.¬† Come on, Agung and Charista,¬† don’t postpone your success and start working together with all of us at next meeting in order to make JLTC become better and better till we beat the time and achieve DCP highest status !¬† See you all again on 17th July.

JLTC 6th March 2014 Meeting

The JLTC meeting on 6th March 2014 was a happy event because we have our old-timer toastmaster member, DTM Fujiyama-San was just arriving Jakarta in the afternoon yet he was able to attend our meeting in the evening and we  had a distinguished guest, Mr Robin, from Singapore visiting our meeting too.

Additionally we have AG Sukardi, DTM Maria Megawati, TM Efi and TM Januar, TM Claudia besides myself, Yendy, leading the meeting.

8Mar014Audiences

TM Efi delivered a very good speech project no.4 with title “All Big Things Start from Small Things”. ¬†Her speech was commented by DTM Fujiyama-San that as a toastmaster, we need to do committment from ourselves despite our function and roles either as SAA, Timer, President, VPE, etc and that we strive to be the best leader and communicator we deem to be.

Meanwhile, TM Yendy who acted as Table Topic Master and Ah-Counter explained the theme of the day ¬†and the WOD : WISH (V) desire, long for. ¬†She further elaborated the theme of “THOSE WHO CAN LOSE SHALL GAIN, and THOSE WHO WISH TO GAIN WILL LOOSE” by giving an example such as, by preparing and leading the meeting all alone, it does consume one’s considerable time that she loses doing some other important works, yet on the other hand, the “Jack-of-all-trades” enable her gain new skill ¬†and time management. ¬†By willing to do so, she is gaining instead of losing.

Thus, dear fellow toastmasters, sometimes we all might think that paying dues is also losing, yet if you are committed to come and deliver your project speech as well as take part in various function roles in the meeting regularly, I  bet you will definitely gain many benefits for your self development, personal business and job career.

However, like the distinguished guest, Mr Robin, said “The more you give, the more you gain”.

Seen below Mr Robin as The Best Table Topic Speaker. The meeting was closed with warm chattings.

Toastmaster Demo at BMC on 8th February 2014

Bahasa Mandarin Center (BMC) in West Jakarta has conducted a toastmaster demonstration  on Saturday, 8th February 2014.

The purpose of the event ¬†was initially intended to make a toastmaster meeting take place on weekend at a suitable date and time agreeable for our distinguished guest from Japan clubs, TM Tanaka Hiroki-San who couldn’t catch up our JLTC regular meeting on every two-weeks Thursday meeting in the evening at Suan Thai restaurant, Cideng, Jakarta due to his far away working place.¬†Yet BMC saw this as good opportunity to introduce toastmaster meeting to its Mandarin students and friends who by chance have not been able to visit JLTC meeting.

Tanaka Efi Yendy_BMC82014Tanaka GE_BMC82014

As in toastmaster practise, we generally have a team of fellows who would help make the meeting merriful and successful.  The meeting was cherished by DTM Johan Setiawan, one of our Indonesian young, notable toastmaster communicators and leaders. His presence  demonstrating his simply amazing  communication and leadership skills   have indeed enchanted the audiences, especially the newcomers.

  Johan_TOM_BMC82014

BMC was glad to have also the presence of some JLTC excos, President Evi Suriyadi and TM Efi Febri (both were ex-BMC students);  and other distinguished guests such as, Zheng Wei Yang, BMC intern from China; Vania utama from Univ of Indonesia student; Jusufin, a Buddhist fellow; and Pak Iwan Setiawan, Mandarin student.

toastmaster demo_BMC 082014

Since there were only 4 real toastmasters, so we have to take double to triple function roles to serve during the meeting. But  most of us took this as a good challenge to practise.  Seen TM Tanaka served as GE (General Evaluator) and Prepared speaker, Yendy as TTM (Table Topic Master) РAh Counter -and Grammarian, TM Efi as Timer and Prepared Speaker, President Evi as chair of the meeting and Wei Yang as Ballot Counter. As for Hall of Fame :  TM Tanaka has won as the Best Prepared Speaker and DTM Johan won double roles as the Best Table Topic Speaker and the Best Evaluator.

weiyang BallotCounter_BMC82014 Johan BestEvaluator_Ydy 202014 Evi N Johan_TM Demo BMC82014 Tanaka BestPrepSpeaker_Evi BMC82014

Despite the small meeting, all of us, especially the newcomers commented that the meeting was meaningful and engaging. They felt happy for knowing what a toastmaster meeting actually meant, the benefits it can give and the chance to enable self potentials development. And last but not least, we all felt grateful for having got to know and to make more new friends, both from domestic and international.

Thus, BMC hopes that this meeting demo could show the audiences or web readers who get interested in toastmaster can join JLTC meeting in the future which can help you achieve your dreams to be a communicator or a leader as what you deem to be.

For Mandarin learning, you are welcome to contact Ms Yendy Widjaja at 0813-11 33 88 32 or yendy@bahasamandarincenter.com and for JLTC meeting or membership, you are welcome to contact Ms Dewi Oni 0878-7707 8715 or imel_j@yahoo.com and or Yendy.  KEEP MOVING FORWARD, KEEP SHINING and KEEP GETTING AHEAD in our all aspects of lifes thanks to toastmaster learning.
