We had two prepared speakers, i. e. TM Lilip Sanjeewa and TM Enny Iyawanti.

Congratulations for TM Lilip Sanjeewa who just finished your first speech project of Pathways, The Icebreaker, with title : Why am I here. He was evaluated by TM Ayu Ratna Lalitya Sudjana. TM Lilip Sanjeewa told his personal story why he came from Sri Lanka to Indonesia, and then joined our Jakarta Lions Toastmasters Club to enhance his public speaking skill. It was very interesting. We are glad having you in our Jakarta Lions Toastmasters Club.

The next prepared speaker was TM Enny Iyawanti who finished her second project speech of ACB (Advanced Communicator Bronze) about story telling manual, Let’s get personal, with title : Sincere Love.  She was evaluated by TM Dewi Oni. TM Enny Iyawanti told her personal story which taught her an important lesson, i.e. We don’t love someone because they are perfect, we love them in spite of the fact that they are not.

Then, the next session was table topic speaker session, as usual, was led by our table topic master, TM Yendy Mayga Widjaja. Here are the photos of the table topic speakers :

Speech Contests of J2 Area Toastmasters Club on 16th September 2017

Dear Fellow Toastmasters and Distinguished Guests,

Here is our update for speech contests of J2 Area Toastmasters Club on 16th September 2017, at 6th floor of Menara Multimedia, Jalan Kebon Sirih No. 12, Central Jakarta 10110.

There are two contestants from Jakarta Lions Toastmasters Club.

They are TM Enny Iyawanti and TM Ayu Ratna Lalitya Sudjana.

Some sharing from the both contestants are as follow :

  1. Enny Iyawanti : I was a very shy person, a real introvert one. I joined Jakarta Lions Toastmasters Club in July 2016. I have never imagined that I decided participating in the evaluation contest. However, it happened … How come ? I have been encouraged by my mentor, TM Yendy Mayga Widjaja. She has been my great mentor in doing English public speaking. I did not focus on whether I could win or not. I just participated in the contest for experiencing a new challenge in my life. It was really my first time participating in Toastmasters club contest, especially an evaluation contest. From this contest, at least I learned how to conquer myself to be dare communicating my evaluation speech in front of new people. One of my new challenges was accomplished 😀 Hopefully my next new challenge will be accomplished soon 😀
  2. Ayu Ratna Lalitya Sudjana : My reason joining the contest is because I was asked personally by J Division Director, TM Farina, to join this contest. Since this contest is lacked of participants. And also to have experience competing with new area J2. Lions was previously, from J1 area, and in this new term, TI moved to J2 area. So to prepare within such short time, I prepare my speech draft and deliver my speech in club meeting for rehearsal. And also attended other area contests, to gain knowledge about contest preparation. It was a hectic week, since I also help the committee by print out the forms and bring the trophy for contest, and finally I got sick, flu, fever, because too tired. My family urged me to cancel the contest, but I have to come up on stage as I promised before, and brought those forms and trophy to the contest. So it’s a struggle for me, to keep me focus on stage and have this flu as well. However, I made it and turned up as 2nd winner for Evaluation contest and 3rd winner for Humorous Speech contest. it’s a mixed feeling that so proud and tired and unbelievable, that I can manage to get this award. I would like to thank all JLTC member, Toastmasters club members who gave valuable inputs for my speech and my evaluation style. I learned that contest style is quite different from regular meeting.

For evaluation:

  • never judge the speech
  • start with praise the speech, mentioned things that the evaluator like, quote part of the speech.
  • always mentioned the objective reasons to judge such as: vocal variety, body language, stage mastery,
  • give conclusion and looking forward for the next speech.
  • back to contest master.

For humorous:

  • start with 2 sentences for prelude.
  • greet judges, contest chair, ladies and gentleman.
  • continue with speech body
  • give an impactful speech like showing slide to support your speech, if necessary.
  • end with closing and conclusion.
  • back to contest master.

Check with contest chair, if there is any microphone, it really helps especially if the hall is big enough. Check with contest master, if you want to use any slides, Do rehearsal with the projector and make sure you are not over time. Greet people at the contest and give congrats to each participant for their achievements.
