Toastmaster for Learning English and Public Speaking

Have you ever heard the quotes or idioms like “blessing in disguise”, “there is a rainbow behind every dark cloud”, etc? Those sayings generally mean that when something might seem unfavourable,  it actually could produce positive results.

At JLTC last meeting on 7th July 2011, we did not get the meeting room  and had to do the meeting in an open public environment. Many things were not in an ideal atmosphere, such as could not use timing light, very limited space available for each speakers to perform body movement, relatively noisy surroundings for the meeting, etc. But hey, did JLTC TMs give up with the situation they were facing? Big NO NO;  the meeting was still continued as per plan and said big YES YES for everyone’s proven determination and fighting spirit. In fact, it was considered as a positive challenge to overcome. Look at how the timer officer was using timing card and cell phone’s stopwatch, how the grammarian was trying hard to focus and listen to each speeches, how the speakers were delivering their speeches with so many distractions, etc. But most importantly, everyone was still having FUN on that day!

The meeting was the first under new JLTC Excos incumbency and presidency of TM Dewi Oni. The Theme was “Success Is The Sum Of Continuous Efforts”, WOD was “Consecutive” (adj: One after the other without interruption) and was attended by 7 Toastmasters: TM Dewi, TM Yendy, TM Saver, TM Herwin, TM Romero, TM John, and TM Albert. It was a good meeting where everyone shared their success story in an impromptu speech at table topic session.  And also, congratulation for the following speakers at prepared speech session:

1. TM Yendy, re-did her Basic Manual. It was amazing for TM Yendy’s spirit for never stop practising and improving her skill.  She delivered BM#1 with speech title “Me, Yendy, 5 Caretakers.”

2. TM John, for keep progressing with his Basic Manual. He delivered BM #2 with speech  title “7 Habits For Highly Effective Teens.” Bravo for TM John in delivering a stunning topic!

3. TM Romero, for starting his Advance Manual speech even though he had not received the copy of the manuals yet. He delivered AM#1 with speech title “Creating Unexpected Bonus from Stock Market”.

Thanks to everyone’s participation for making the meeting great by performing enthusiastic communication and leadership skills.

There is an ancient Chinese saying “Learning is like rowing against the current, if you are not moving forward, you are moving backward.”

See you all again in next JLTC meeting on Thursday, 21st July 2011!

Warmest regards by Michael Romero / JLTC VP Membership for the term of
  July 2011 – June 2012
